Coffee Morning January 2012
A New Beginning in Jesus
The woman of Samaria, spoken about in John chapter 4 had a new beginning when she met the Spiritual "Messiah" Jesus Christ. The samaritan woman was an outcast, shy and ashamed of her broken marriages and her present common law situation. She does however have a religion and a belief in God, but despite her religion her life was a muddle. She was isolated and looked down upon in her community. Feeling ashamed of herself she goes to the well at noon when no one will see her, and meets Jesus the Lord of all creation
Jesus with overwhelming gentleness, love and compassion breaks all social norms and asks for a drink. She realises that the request is unusual because Jews had no dealings with Samaritans. Jesus in his gentleness gave her the opportunity to confess the truth about herself. At the same time wanting her to come to know him for who he really is. The source of the life giving stream of living water.
Little by little, and not without some defensivness on her part, she reveals her "inner self" to him, and comes to know who he is in a gradual beautiful progression.
First she calls him a Jew then Sir then greater than Jacob, then a Prophet and finally confesses him as the "Messiah" the Christ. In this encounter with Jesus she experiences God's forgiving love with it's unconditional acceptance of her as she is, and a belief in who she could become.
This experience of God's love through Jesus Christ transforms her life. The woman now experiences true moral restoration and freedom from spiritual thirst through the healing power of the Messiah Jesus Christ.
Feeling completely forgiven and accepted by him she forgets her water jug, turns into the town unashamed, and announces to all - Come and see someone who knows all about me and still loves me! This is God's amazing grace manifested in her heart. You could say she became an evangelist telling others about Jesus and the Good News of Salvation.
May God in his mercy grant that 2012 will be a year when many will meet with Jesus and be saved from their sins to life everlasting.
Happy New Year
